The calendar that shows nothing

A bookable service with no resource behind it draws a calendar with nothing in it. Here is why.

Every week somebody sets up a bookable service, opens the page, and finds a calendar offering no times at all. The service is there. The hours are there. The calendar is empty.

The cause is always the same. A service needs a resource of the right kind behind it, and it does not have one.

Three modes, three kinds of resource

A restaurant allocates a table from a party size. A rental counts nights against a unit. An appointment needs a named person to be free. They are not variations of one problem, so each one has its own pricing and its own idea of what availability means.

That also means each one needs its own kind of thing behind it. A table, a unit, a person. Without one, availability is correctly calculated as nothing, because nothing can be allocated.

What changed

The setup screen now says this in the place where it happens, rather than leaving you to find it. The calendar also says it, instead of drawing an empty month and looking broken.

It is a small change. It was also, by some distance, the most common support question we had.

Start

Make one page tonight.

An account, a starting point, and a form that sends you a real email. Nothing is public until you say so.
